The Long GameI enjoyed The Long Game, not as much as last weeks DALEK, but enjoyed it nevertheless. Still a top notch quality episode to compliment what is turning out to be the best series of Doctor Who ever. Simon Pegg was wonderful as The Editor, not totally evil, but without morals and a touch of eccentricity. Adam was a companion much like Turlough, not bad, but not on The Doctors side. To be fair I didn't like the character so hopefully it's good riddance. Liked the finger-clicking humour at the end though. Special effects ranged from very good for the space station, to passable for the what-ever-you-call-it meat monster. Overall 7/10 Next weeks Father's Day looks interesting, and it's by long time Dr Who writer Paul Cornell, so should be good. Following that it's the two part WWII story by Steven Moffatt, so there should be some humour in that one.

The beauty of Doctor Who has always been that it can be whatever the writer wants it to be. So far this series we have had the action and adventure, the sci-fi, the history, the horror and the comedy. With Father's Day Doctor Who throws us another curve ball by delivering a truely superb piece of drama. In fact this is most probably the best piece of sci-fi drama ever written, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little choked up by the end of the episode.
Rose shows that she isn't perfect, and The Doctor cannot always win the day. What Paul Cornell has delivered is a simple but effective story. Keeping the sci-fi fans happy the story has it's own monsters, Time Reapers, which were nicely rendered but were really of no major importance to the overall plot. It was also nice to see another old-Who reference in there, Mawdryn Undead, when The Doctor tells Rose not to touch her baby self.
Overall 7/10

The DVD release of the episode Dalek has been given a Cert.12 rating by the BBFC. The reason being the scene where the Dalek itself is tortured. The BBC were not happy with editing the episode so have accepted the rating.
Personally I'm waiting for the box set in November.

The Empty ChildBefore watching I already knew this episode was written by Steven Moffat, was set in WWII and was supposed to be scary. So I sat down eager for this weeks story, already on a high after seeing Revenge of the Sith. What was delivered was yet another jewel in the crown of Doctor Who glory. A tense dark drama. Being a Steven Moffat story there was a tendancy to think the humour would be in your face, but it was instead delivered with rather subdued subtlety that fit smoothly into this dark story. Hats off to the special effects department this time round, the recreation of 1941 London could have been no easy feat. And the morphing of the gas mask through Richard Wilson's face was freaky! And hats off all round to every actor, The Doctor & Rose and the charming Capt. Jack to Richard Wilson's Doctor and the children. I'm not fan of children on TV or film (not even when I was a kid myself) and especially not in Doctor Who (bad memories of The Twin Dilemma), but the young actors in this episode were excellent. As the episode progressed, rather than reveal more of what was going on it instead only gave you yet another mystery. Can the people in the hospital be saved? Will Capt. Jack turn out to be a heroic scoundrel? Fantastic! It wasn't until the credits started rolling that I realised that I was curled up in a ball on my sofa. Tense, exciting, occasoinally funny, and scary. Very Doctor Who! Overall 9/10

The rumours are that Billie Piper will bow out of Doctor Who some time during the next series. Neither the BBC or Billie will confirm how many episodes she will be in.

The Doctor DancesWhat a fantastic conclusion to this two-parter. Defiantly on a par with Dalek as best of the series. This episode managed to keep the atmosphere and drama going. A couple of surprises I didn't get (Jamie being Nancy's son for one). Oddly, there were plenty of gay references and it wasn't a RTD story?! This episode also managed to break the Doctor Who mould yet again, no monster. Okay, there were zombie people, but there was no villain, no actual monster, just an accidental alien threat. In fact if there was a monster reference in this episode it was Hitler. Loved the part where Rose told Nancy "You win." And the final bit with the woman who's leg had grown back, Richard Wilson plays it straight and still gets the laugh. Oh, and the Doctor dances in the TARDIS. Fantastic!!![/i] Overall 10/10

Boom TownFollowing from last weeks excellent story this episode is a bit of a come down, though that's not to say it's a bad episode. Far from it. Set in modern day Cardiff the TARDIS needs to refuel, taking energies from the temporal rift we saw in The Unquiet Dead. But then The Doctor learns that Blon Slitheen is still alive, and working on a plan that will destroy Cardiff and possibly the world. This episode further pushes the boundaries of Doctor Who by having The Doctor sit down and face an enemy that he is condeming to death (though few would say she doesn't deserve it). Fortunately for the Doctor he doesn't have to deal with that decision, which in a way saves The Doctors character. But is The Doctor a murderer, well he's commited genocide on more than one occasion so there is certainly a lot of blood on his hands. But to steal a line from Arnie in True Lies, "yes, but they were all bad." The scene where The Doctor realises that the words BAD WOLF seem to be following them around was very funny. Despite being a come down from The Doctor Dances you need to look at this episodes placing in the context of the series. The Empty Child would probably not have had quite the impact had it followed Dalek. With the trailer for next weeks episode looking fantastic Boom Town most certainly seems the lull before the storm. Overall: 6/10

Bad WolfAventure, excitement, a Jedi may not crave these things but that does not stop Doctor Who from delivering them. This was just an amazing episode. Well, there has yet to be a weak episode in this new season, though it's the RTD scripts which have seemingly come under critisism from DW fandom. But not from me. RTD has regenerated an aged series into the best television series (not just Doctor Who) in years. And with Episode 12 he hits the mark once more. Bad Wolf has everything. Action, adventure, humour, satire, drama, mystery, emotion and... Daleks!!! The Doctors own opening words "You have got to be kidding" were no doubt in most viewers minds as he appears in the Big Brother household (I'm no BB fan). And with Rose facing the Ann-Droid, fantastic! But the surpriose for me the last couple of episodes is Captain Jack. I was unsure that his character would adapt beyond The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, but how wrong I could be. He's great. I wonder where he did keep that laser? As the Episode progresses you're delivered blow after blow of excitement. Is Rose really dead? And the realisation that over 1/2 a million Daleks have survived the Time War. There were also a few nice touches like the hum of the Dalek Mothership being the same as it was in the 60's. And even the architecture is similar to those classic episodes. But Rose is alive, and prisoner of the Daleks. The Doctor is warned that she will be exterminated if he interfers. But The Doctor says "No." He's going to rescue Rose from the middle of the Dalek fleet, save the Earth, and destroy every single last Dalek! Followed by the trailer for for next weeks finale, oh my giddy aunt, I can't wait! Captain Jack "Am I naked on television" Trinny and Susannah droids "Absolutely." Captain Jack "Ladies, your viewing figure just went up." Overall 10/10 FANTASTIC!!!

Parting of the waysThe Doctor is dead... long live The Doctor! So finally this superb new series of Doctor Who comes to an end, but what a way to go out. This series we have had a new Doctor, new companions, new monsters such as the Slitheen family and the Gelth, and old foes in the Autons and Daleks. And the TARDIS is a mix of new and old too. But what we have had over the last 13 weeks is fantastic television. Gripping sci-fi with action, adventure, drama, humour and fun. According to Outpost Galifrey the BBC spent £1 million per episode, with a further £200,000 in overseas money. It was a big gamble for the BBC, but with Dr Who again this week pulling in the most viewers, over 6 million despite the good weather, it's a gamble that has paid off. BBC Wales have restored the reputation of one of TVs most enduring shows. The Doctor is back! So to Parting of the Ways, following on where Bad Wolf left off with The Doctor facing off to over half a million Daleks. This episode certainly delivers. The Daleks are not played down to any degree, keeping up the menace created on their earlier appearance this season. I was shocked to see Captain Jack die (but happy when he didn't). And The Doctor sending Rose home to safety shows how much he cares for her. This episode had both drama and humour mixed in with the excitement, and it was finally Rose, the BAD WOLF, who saved the day. And The Doctor then saves Rose, but at what cost. I wasn't expecting the regeneration in this episode, so it was a surprise. All in all, I loved it. Overall: 9½/10 So now we have David Tennant as The Doctor, Billie Piper is staying on as Rose, and the Cybermen return at some point. But next is the Christmas Invaision. I can't believe I'm actually looking forward to Christmas.

According to a Sunday newspaper (no the best source of information I know) Billie Piper is being paid £210,000 to appear in Dr Who next year. Davis Tennant's wage is around £166,000.
David Tennants deal is reportedly a half million pound deal for three years!

There are a few updates a www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwhoThe most prominent being the first pictures of the new Doctor in costume. It's a brown pin-stripe suit, with a long overcoat and trainers. Reminiscent of the Second Doctor I'd say. There's also news that filming has now started on the second (28th) series starting with Christmas Special. There is confirmation that Liz Sladen will reprise her role as journalist Sarah-Jane Smith, Stephen Fry will write an episode and Anthony Head (Buffy, Big Finish) will also guest star. Recurring characters include Rose's mum, Micky and Penelope Wilton as Harriot Jones "MP, Flydale North."
