Is it Series One or Series Twenty-Seven? Either way, Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper will soon be making their Doctor Who debut. The date rumoured for the start of the series is March 26th. "Anyone for a Jelly Baby?"

The official launch of the new series took place yesterday at St.Davids Hotel in Cardiff. Many of the actors and production crew were present.
In the article on the BBC news page it states the broadcast date March 26th, and as far as I know this is the closest to an official announcement to date.
The BBC have also revamped their Doctor Who website featuring trailers (and the first view of the TARDIS interior), along with more news and wallpapers.

Fantastic!!!
Is there any more that can be said. Possibly the best Dr Who yet.
Superb acting, fast action, sci-fi and funny too. Ecclestons is excellent as the Doctor and Billie Piper wonderful as his new companion Rose.
Russell T. Davies is the man of the moment. He has truely re-invented the best TV series ever, and made it even better. Can't wait 'til next week.
Just let's hope the BBC don't mess the sound up like the did at the start - pretty sure that sounded like BBC Three just as the Doctor rescues Rose at the start.

The first episode of the new Doctor Who pulling around 10 Million viewers, beating ITVs Ant & Dec. Who'd have thought it. Not only is Dr Who back, but it's a rating success. I dare say figures will drop off and average out in the coming weeks, but what a start!

The End of the World Episode Two of the new series has now aired, and, well still looking good. This episode wasn't as action as the first, at least I didn't think so. We get to meet the the Mox of Balhood, The tree Jabe, and the delightfully naughty last human, the Lady Cassandra O'Brien. All that accompanied by Britney Spears and the Earth exploding (guess it wasn't the Vogons after all).
We also learn that The Doctor is the last of the Time Lords. A bit of fan continuity there I think, the Time Lords getting wiped out in one of the recent novels I believe.
There's also a little more drama in this episode. Rose's concern that she has run off with an alien she knows nothing about, and Lady Cassandra a mouthful. This is something that has hardly been touched in the past as The Doctor whisks strangers off through time and space. The Doctor himself also shows a sign of sadness for the loss of his own people.
Onto the pretty, pretty. The Special effects were on the ball, or is that on the boil ;D The Moxx, the trees, the Lady are all wonderfully portrayed. As is the space station. Although I couldn't stop myself thinking of Sigourney Weaver in Galaxy Quest towards the end of the episode with those giant fans. Thinking about the Galaxy Quest mashers I could almost hear The Doctor screaming "What are they doing here, what is the point?" Well I guess it was a ventilation system opposed to Galaxy Quests comedic nonesense.
Overall, 8/10.
Fantastic!

The Unquiet DeadThe third episode of the new series takes The Doctor and Rose to Cardiff 1869, even though the target was Naples 1860. It's these little quirks that make it Doctor Who. I loved Rose's reaction to being in the past, even when The Doctor told her he's made a mistake and they were in Cardiff. They bump into Charles Dickens, and soon stumble on a Rift where aliens are trying to come through, reanimating the bodies of the dead. The Doctor wants to help them, but Rose doesn't like the idea of giving them dead bodies to inhabit. But like many aliens in Dr Who their intentions turn out more sinister and The Doctor is forced to destroy them. Persoanlly I thought the story was somewhat lacking in this episode. It was bit slow, and lacked some of the humour of the previous two episodes (which was surprising considering it was written by Mark Gatiss), but this was to try and get across the ghost story feel. The sets were wonderful, special effects and makup superb, and the acting first rate by all of the cast, especially Simon Callow as Charles Dickens. Referring back to 'old Who' this was a bit of a mix of Talons' and Ghost Light. I found the episode very atmospheric, and The doctor still has that sparkle in his eye. Best Line "I'm going to die in a dungeon ... in Cardiff!" Overall: story slightly lacking, made up for in atmosphere and peformance. 7/10 Next Weeks Aliens of London is the one I've been looking forward to. It does look Fantastic!

The good Doctor wins the ratings war again this week with an average audience of 8.3 million. This is against the Royal Wedding (6.2 million), a Grand National (7.3 million), Casualty (8.0 million), and Ant and Dec (7.1 million). Fantastic!

Aliens of LondonThe Doctor returns Rose home, telling her she's only been away for 12 hours. Only he got it wrong, it was 12 months! A good chunk of the first part of this two part story deals with how Rose's dissappearance affected her family and friends. Great drama, and a topic new to DW. The story really kicks off when The Doctor investigates a spaceship that has just crashed into the Thames, destroying Big Ben en route! I loved the 'alien' pig. Who said pigs can't fly. Possibly a nod to the Muppets here with Pigs in Space. And as the great one himself, Doctor Ugavine of the Warriors of Gar, is of the porcine persuasion, you can guess that I was chuckling to myself (out loud) as the pig ran through the halls of the hospital. Only to be horrified when the poor creature was shot! What was wrong with the man? Has he never seen a pig from space before?! Anyway, The Doctor realises the whole thing is a hoax and investigates further where he gets himself and Rose is a lot of trouble in 10 Downing Street or all places. Again I loved it how the governments Red Alerts were sounded when The Doctors presence was reported. And a nice nod to UNIT too. The alien Slitheen were interesting. Quie a good design, although I thought the special effects on breaking out of the bodies at the end of the episode were a bit ropey. The baby-like faces but monsterous bodies make a fearsome beast. The breaking wind I first thought a bit too much, but that was before The Doctor delivered the best one-liner in the series ever, "Do you mind not farting while I'm trying to save the world!"Throughout the episode Eccleston kept up his emphusiasm and humour we have now come to expect. But the star of the show is by far Billie Piper as companion Rose. She goes from strength to strength with every story, and I can only say that I'm delighted that she is staying aboard the TARDIS for another season. Overall: 9/10 [wide grin] Fantastic!!!"Over 900 years of traveling through Time and Space and that's the first time 've been slapped by somebodies mother."

Viewing figures for Aliens of London were down a bit this week to just under 7 million viewers, beaten for the first time by Ant n Dec in their final episode. I'm sure next weeks WHO will fair better against Celebrity Wrestling, even if it is presented by Hot Rod himself, Rowdy Roddy Piper!

The Sun newspaper is reporting that Matt Lucas, now famous for the hit comedy series Little Britain, is to make an appearance in the new series of Doctor Who. Matt Lucas has already appeared with David Tennat in Casanova and the two are reportedly good friends.
A little more reaseach by the so-called journalists would have put that he's going to appear in Doctor Who, AGAIN! Yep, he's already been there. Matt Lucas appeared alongside Colin Baker, Bonnie Langford and Christopher Biggins in December 2001 in the hilarious The One Doctor audio adventure by Big Finish. And for anybody that hasn't listened to this story, do so now. If just for the 'flushing' dematerialisation effects for the false TARDIS port-a-loo!
"I want that one." "That's a Dalek." "yeah I know." "You don't like Daleks, they scare you." "yeah I know." "Whay not have a K-9 instead?" "I want that one." "Fine, if that's what you want, here's you're Dalek." ... "I want K-9."

World War IIISo what did I think? First off I think they should have stuck to 100% CGI for the aliens. It didn't blend well with the costumes, but that didn't detract from my enjoyment. The episode had it's comedy moments, but what struck a cord with WWIII was the drama and emotion on show. The Doctor cares for Rose, to the point where he nearly let the world end rather than danger her. And Penelope Wilton as "Hariot Jones, MP, Flydale North," was superb. An acress I have always enjoyed watching from Ever Decreasing Circles to Shaun of the Dead. And even Micky has earned the Doctors respect by the end of the episode, with the Doctor playing the villain in front of Rose. Overall 8/10 So, has anyone else tried that password on the U.N.I.T. web page?

Just an 'additional' bit of news regarding soon to be Doctor no. 10, David Tennant. Just that David Tenneant is not new to the world of Doctor Who having appeared in several Big Finish Audio stories. He was in Colditz and Medical Purposes, in two of the Doctor WhoUnbound stories as well as being the star of Dalek Empire III. His latest Big Finish audio is The Adventures of Luther Arkwright.

DalekFinally the Doctor comes face to face with the pepper pot nightmares were made from. Answering a distress call The Doctor lands the TARDIS in a museum of alien relics on Earth in the year 2012. The distress signal is, to The Doctors amazement, from a Dalek - the LAST Dalek! This episode is absolutely fantastic! The Dalek regeneration scene was amazing. This is the most amazing, and deadly, Dalek ever to appear on screen. There's more backstory as it is inferred that the 'Time War' was between the Time Lords and the Daleks, with only The Doctor and this Dalek to survive. The Doctor becomes the killer as he seemingly relishes the opportunity to kill a Dalek. While the Dalek, now with Rose's DNA, starts to show signs of remose, and begs for death. There were a couple of negatives, the first being the 45 minutes episode left format. This limited the plot slightly, meaning the story soon became predictable. The second is that the episode can be liked to STAR TREKs 'I, Borg.' The plus being Doctor Who does it much better. Overall: 10/10
